The Register of Community Interests in Land (RCIL) was created after the introduction of the Right to Buy in the Part 2 of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. Any interest of a community body exercising a right to buy must be registered in the RCIL
From April 2016 the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 extended the Community Right to Buy across all of Scotland.
Further from June 2018, the Register of Applications by Community Bodies to Buy Land was established and contains details of any application submitted by a community body to purchase abandoned, neglected and detrimental land or to buy land for sustainable development.
